Recorders

The recorder's job is to record the master tape of news items. He/she monitors the sound levels during the recording and also puts a short piece of music onto each end of each side of the tape. This allows for any slight difference in the length of the tapes, and ensures that none of the news is lost when the tape is copied.

The recorder will then use the copying machines to turn the master into another three copies.

The recording usually goes smoothly but there is always the exception to the rule. Someone might have a fit of coughing or sneezing, then the recording has to stop and restart when everything is settled again.

This job is done on a Wednesday morning or evening, (depending on the rota).
