Despatchers

The despatchers also work in pairs. They empty the previous week’s tapes out of the wallets and then put the tapes just copied into this week’s wallets. They then send them off to the post office to be delivered to our listeners.

We have two sets of wallets one yellow and one blue. This is because being a weekly newspaper some wallets might not be back in time for the following week's tape. Having two sets of wallets ensures that everyone gets a tape each week.

Some wallets may go missing in the post some weeks, so we keep a register of who receives a tape each week. This will also show if someone has not had the tape for a few weeks and this can then be checked on.

The despatchers also deal with any messages that might be in the wallets from the listeners. This might be to say something about the tape, or to say they are going on holiday and not to send the tape for a while, or it might be to cancel the tape. They will then remove both wallets from the system and then inform our registrar.
